Naples Metropolitan City launches archaeological site network
The Metropolitan City of Naples has established a new network of archaeological sites through the ‘Adopt an Archaeological Asset’ project. This initiative involves 92 municipalities, local institutions, and territorial entities working together to create a unified valorization path.
By connecting lesser-known sites with major UNESCO attractions such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Oplontis, the project aims to distribute tourist flows and increase visitor stay durations. The goal is to use tourism as a driver for cultural and economic development across the entire metropolitan area.
The initiative was announced by Metropolitan Councilor Vincenzo Cirillo during a workshop at the XXVIII Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange in Paestum. The project follows a comprehensive census of archaeological assets across the 92 municipalities.
