Naples: PLD launches campaign for increased police presence

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLD) of Naples has launched the ‘Vigili fuori!’ campaign to demand increased road safety and a stronger presence of the Municipal Police. The initiative follows a period of high traffic fatalities in the city; in 2025, Naples recorded 2,670 accidents resulting in injuries, 27 deaths, and 3,330 injuries.

Alfio Ferlito, the provincial secretary of the PLD for Naples, stated that behaviors such as speeding, mobile phone use while driving, and failure to respect pedestrian crossings pose daily risks. The party is calling for police officers to be deployed primarily for field patrols and deterrent activities rather than administrative tasks. Additionally, the PLD is advocating for improved technological tools, including video surveillance and enhanced control systems, to ensure public safety and effective enforcement.
