Italy hosts historic sailing events in Imperia and Naples

The 40th anniversary of Le Vele d’Epoca-Imperia Sailing Week 2026 has commenced in Imperia, Italy. Running from August 28 to September 6 at Calata Anselmi, the event features the 12 Metre International Class World Championship. The regatta showcases historic America’s Cup vessels from the 1960s through the 1980s, including Kookaburra II, piloted by Patrizio Bertelli, and Kookaburra III. Other notable vessels include Kz5, Kiwi Magic, and France.

In Naples, preparations for the 2027 America’s Cup are accelerating. The Swiss team Alinghi has begun training in the Gulf of Naples ahead of the Preliminary Regatta scheduled for September 24–27. Infrastructure projects are underway, including the completion of six hangars in Nisida and ongoing work in Bagnoli to establish operational bases. A Race Village is also planned for the Lungomare Caracciolo to host public events and promote the international sailing competition.
