Naples students occupy numerous high schools over educational conditions

Students in Naples have launched a wave of occupations across numerous high schools, including Liceo Palizzi, Tito Lucrezio Caro, and Umberto. The protests involve a wide range of institutions throughout the city, with students citing several grievances regarding the state of public education.

Key demands and complaints include dilapidated school buildings, water infiltration, overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and job insecurity, the high cost of textbooks, and inadequate facilities such as gyms and bathrooms. Students also highlighted the lack of proper break periods and the suppression of student weeks.

The movement has drawn political support from groups such as the Partito della Rifondazione Comunista, which expressed solidarity with the students' right to study in dignified conditions. The local protests are being framed by participants as part of a broader international trend of student mobilization, drawing parallels to recent large-scale demonstrations in France and Spain regarding public education funding and social inequality.
