Narendra Modi invites Australian clean‑energy firms to invest in India at Melbourne CEO forum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met at the India‑Australia CEO Forum in Melbourne on July 9, 2026. The leaders exchanged a selfie and described the two nations as "reliable partners" while calling for expanded cooperation in clean energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence and other sectors.

Modi invited Australian companies, especially those in clean‑energy, to set up manufacturing in India for hydro projects, green hydrogen, solar modules and wind turbines. He highlighted India’s targets of 500 GW renewable‑energy capacity by 2030, net‑zero emissions by 2070 and 100 GW nuclear power by 2047, noting that Australian uranium resources and technology could support the nuclear goal. The dialogue builds on the 2022 India‑Australia Economic Cooperation Agreement that has already doubled bilateral exports.
