India hosts Khelo India Dialogue to prepare youth for 2036 Olympics
To mark National Sports Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed youth and athletes across India through the ‘Khelo India Dialogue’. The nationwide initiative, organized by Mera Yuva Bharat, involved virtual participation from over 1,500 educational institutions and approximately 800,000 young people across 1,600 locations.
The dialogue focused on five key themes: enhancing the sports ecosystem, preparing for the 2036 Olympics through scientific talent identification, fostering youth leadership, contributing to a ‘Viksit Bharat’, and promoting a ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva’ (drug-free youth) movement. The program aimed to bridge the gap between budding athletes and policymakers, providing a platform for youth to share ideas on grassroots infrastructure, coaching, and sports science.
In addition to the Prime Minister's address, the event featured interactions between young participants and legendary Indian athletes, including Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, and P.T. Usha. Separately, Daljender Singh, chief coach of the Indian para hockey team, credited government support and Special Olympics Bharat for the team's recent progress and their 11th-place world ranking following their FIH World Cup appearance.
