Narendra Modi to inaugurate Chennai Metro Phase II stretch on October 11
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the 14.6-km Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch of the Chennai Metro Phase II on October 11. During the visit, the Prime Minister is likely to travel by metro from Poonamallee to Porur.
This stretch is part of Corridor 4 and represents a significant milestone for the 118.9-km Phase II project. The new line includes 11 elevated stations and is intended to provide an alternative to road travel along the busy Arcot Road corridor, improving connectivity between western Chennai and Vadapalani. Initial services are expected to operate at approximately 10-minute intervals.
In addition to the metro inauguration, the Prime Minister’s itinerary may include a visit to IIT-Madras and the inauguration of other development projects, such as the Vellore airport project and various foundation-stone ceremonies. While the stretch received safety clearance in May, the full Corridor 4 route remains under development as some intermediate stations are still under construction.
