Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Victoria, Seychelles on 29 May and paid tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Peace Park, laying a wreath and meeting members of the Indian expatriate community. The diaspora, representing individuals from Jammu‑Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and other regions, expressed that meeting the Indian leader was a memorable moment and highlighted hopes that the trip will deepen India‑Seychelles ties.

Modi’s visit coincides with Seychelles’ 50th anniversary of independence. Indian officials noted that the partnership includes a $1.75 billion gift and the provision of several vessels to strengthen maritime cooperation, underscoring a broader strategic relationship between the two nations.
