Nariño emerges as a community tourism destination in Colombia

Nariño is emerging as a significant tourism destination in southwestern Colombia, leveraging its diverse geography which includes the Andean region, volcanic chains, the Amazon, and the Pacific coast.

The department offers various cultural and natural attractions, including the Carnival of Blacks and Whites in Pasto, the Mopa Mopa varnish of Pasto, and the Qhapaq Ñan road. These elements, along with its biodiversity and gastronomy, form a robust tourism proposal based on community management.

According to the World Tourism Organization, community-based tourism has seen a 65% growth over the last five years, serving as a viable alternative to mass tourism and a tool for social empowerment and environmental conservation.
