NASA advances Artemis III mission and lunar science hardware

NASA is advancing several key components of the Artemis program, including the preparation for the Artemis III crewed demonstration mission. Technicians recently joined the Orion crew and service modules at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The agency reports that hardware integration for the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket is outpacing previous timelines.

In lunar science development, engineers have completed the hardware development and testing for the Lunar Environment Monitoring Station (LEMS), a payload designed for astronauts to deploy on the Moon’s surface. Additionally, NASA is utilizing a 737 aircraft, currently undergoing modifications in Oklahoma, to serve as a reduced gravity test aircraft.
