NASA outlines plan for permanent Moon base near lunar south pole

NASA has presented a staged roadmap to establish a permanent human outpost near the Moon’s south pole. The third and final phase is described as achieving a “permanent human presence” where living and working on the Moon become routine.

Experts highlight the technical challenges: the Moon lacks an atmosphere and magnetic field, exposing crews to intense radiation, and surface temperatures swing from over 130 °F in sun‑lit areas to –334 °F in permanently shadowed craters.
