NASA releases Artemis II images and details Artemis III lunar mission plans

NASA has released more than 11,500 photos, videos and audio recordings captured during the Artemis II crewed lunar flyby. The material, which includes views of the Moon’s surface, Earth from deep space and crew activities, will be uploaded to the agency’s public Planetary Data System after formatting and transcription. Researchers will use the data to study lunar geology, impact flashes, surface composition and the physiological effects of radiation and microgravity on astronauts.

The agency also announced additional information about Artemis III, slated for 2027. The upcoming mission will test low‑Earth‑orbit operations between the Orion capsule and commercial lunar landers being developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin, with the goal of returning humans to the Moon’s surface. These steps are intended to refine scientific and medical protocols for longer deep‑space voyages.
