NASA seeks state proposals to host U.S. Space Academy

NASA has issued a request for information (RFI) seeking state proposals to host and sponsor the planned U.S. Space Academy. State governors or their designees must submit proposals by October 26, 2026, detailing infrastructure, community resources, and potential partnerships.

The academy aims to educate the next generation of scientists, engineers, astronauts, and warfighters to ensure American superiority in space. Unlike purely military institutions, the academy will be led by NASA.

NASA has established an ambitious timeline for the project: groundbreaking is expected by 2027, with temporary facilities intended to host an initial class of 300 students by 2028. The agency plans for a permanent campus—featuring research buildings, student residences, and administrative facilities—to be fully operational by 2031.
