NASCAN seeks to cut caution laps after Brickyard 400 controversy

Following the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials said they are examining ways to shorten lengthy caution periods that consumed 27 laps of the race. Vice President of Racing Communications Mike Forde mentioned possible changes such as relocating the “Choose” marker to reduce the number of laps run under yellow, especially near the end of stages.

Race winner Corey Heim celebrated his second Cup victory by playfully wearing his winner’s ring on his middle finger, a nod to an on‑track incident with fellow driver Carson Hocevar, who had flashed the middle finger while Heim entered pit road. Heim later joked about the altercation on a podcast, while emphasizing his focus on the race and his triumph over competitors Christopher Bell and Joey Logano.

NASCAR indicated that fan frustration over prolonged cautions is being taken seriously, and that the organization continues to assess all race‑procedure elements to increase green‑flag action.
