NASCAR looks at shortening caution periods after Brickyard 400 fan backlash

NASCAR officials said they are reviewing procedures to reduce the length of yellow‑flag caution periods following strong fan criticism of the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Vice President of Racing Communications Mike Forde noted that 27 of the 160 laps were run under caution, including a 20‑minute stretch caused by crashes involving Kyle Larson and Daniel Dye. The sanctioning body is exploring ways to increase green‑flag racing time, but confirmed that stage‑break cautions will remain unchanged and there are no plans to eliminate them.

Forde emphasized that NASCAR “matches the displeasure” of fans and is tracking the time between yellow and green flags to improve the racing experience.
