NASCAR to return to Naval Base Coronado in 2027
NASCAR has announced it will return to Naval Base Coronado in 2027, with both the Cup and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series scheduled to race the Southern California course. The 2027 event is set for August 1 and will serve as the championship round of the In-Season Challenge.
Following discussions between NASCAR Chief Operating Officer Ben Kennedy and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, the organization plans to expand its presence at military installations starting in 2028. NASCAR is currently researching iconic military sites in priority markets to establish a long-term rotation of races.
In terms of schedule changes, the Craftsman Truck Series will not return to Coronado this year; instead, it will hold a September race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario, Canada. These moves come as NASCAR continues a broader strategic effort to modernize its brand, expand media distribution through platforms like Prime Video and TNT Sports, and attract younger demographics through new markets and digital content.
