Nasry Asfura defends administration and announces drought relief

Honduran President Nasry Asfura has defended his administration's performance against various criticisms, stating that his government's impact should be evaluated over the long term rather than in its first few months. He emphasized that his team remains focused on national objectives despite ongoing questioning from different sectors.

To address an extreme drought emergency, the government is preparing food assistance for affected families. Asfura announced plans to distribute between 80,000 and 100,000 food sacks, each weighing approximately 80 pounds. Reynaldo Sánchez, the minister of Copeco, is coordinating these distribution efforts. Additionally, the administration is working on drilling wells and constructing reservoirs to combat water scarcity. While the government is initially using its own resources, Asfura noted the possibility of receiving support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Regarding economic concerns, Asfura addressed reports of business closures and job reductions in Choloma. He stated he would review the situation but maintained that many companies he has visited are actually planning to expand their operations.
