Honduras six‑month government review

President Nasry Asfura opened a press conference on 30 July 2026 to present a six‑month review of his administration. He described the inherited challenges—paralysed institutions, abandoned projects, large debts and deteriorating services—and outlined actions taken: expanding school connectivity, thousands of surgeries, Community Medical Units, anti‑crime measures, resumed infrastructure works, equipment for municipal distribution, reorganisation of public finances and the electricity utility ENEE, and efforts to secure international cooperation and jobs for Hondurans.

Two days later, Asfura highlighted concrete achievements from the first half‑year, stressing progress in health, education, security, infrastructure, energy and public finances. He urged Congress to approve reforms to stabilise ENEE and noted ongoing talks with the IMF for a new agreement. The report cited rising international reserves, fiscal discipline, distribution of school textbooks, reduced surgical wait times, drug‑supply improvements, expanded police operations, road repairs, new dams and municipal equipment. The government also announced the registration of 2,700 new companies, pointing to private‑sector confidence and steps to streamline permits and regulations.
