Brazilian municipalities approve 2027 budget directives

The city councils of João Pessoa, Ponta Porã and Natal have approved or scheduled public hearings on their 2027 Lei de Diretrizes Orçamentárias (LDO). In João Pessoa, councilors voted on the LDO with 77 amendments, and the rapporteur highlighted the mayor’s commitment, noting “Leo Bezerra está dando continuidade às ações desenvolvidas anteriormente”. In Ponta Porã, a public hearing was set for June 25 to discuss the LDO, with the chamber president emphasizing that “a audiência pública é uma determinação legal”. Natal’s legislative commissions approved 153 amendments to the municipal Plano Plurianual and LDO for 2027, a move praised by government leader Aldo Clemente who said, “Esses são projetos que falam diretamente com a vida do cidadão natalense”. These actions shape municipal spending priorities in health, education, infrastructure and social services for the coming year across several Brazilian states.
