National Australia Bank reports 9% rise in Q3 profit

National Australia Bank (NAB) reported a statutory net profit of A$1.8 billion (US$1.28 billion) for the third quarter of 2026, marking a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. The bank attributed the growth to strong loan volumes and well-managed margins, despite facing higher costs.

Key financial metrics include a 6% year-on-year increase in total gross loans and acceptances, reaching A$817.4 billion. Business lending rose by 2% to A$352.4 billion, while home lending grew by 4% to A$451.4 billion. Deposit balances also saw a 7% year-on-year increase to A$685.4 billion.

While net operating income rose 5% to A$5.5 billion, the net interest margin declined by 2 basis points to 1.79%. The bank noted that expenses were impacted by changes to software capitalisation policies, higher technology costs, and increased payroll remediation costs, though these were partially offset by productivity gains.
