Guadalajara faces severe flooding and water quality protests

Heavy storms in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area caused significant flooding across several municipalities, including Zapopan, Tonalá, and Tlaquepaque. Water levels reached approximately 50 centimeters in certain underpasses, such as the Periférico and Servidor Público intersection. The weather led to the suspension of Siteur electric train lines 1 and 4, and caused a two-hour delay for a Liga MX football match between Chivas and Xolos de Tijuana.

In response to ongoing water quality issues, approximately one thousand people demonstrated in central Guadalajara against the water distribution service SIAPA. Protesters demanded immediate health alerts and criticized the lack of transparency regarding the government's water management plan. While the state announced a strategic management plan, critics noted that the total investment has risen to 42.2 billion pesos and expressed concerns over the adequacy of economic compensations for affected users.
