National Democratic Congress candidates declare bids for leadership roles
Several candidates have declared their intentions to contest for leadership positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has announced his bid for the NDC National Chairmanship. He emphasized the need for transparent systems to reward grassroots members, such as branch organizers and polling station agents, based on competence and service rather than personal connections to influential figures. Opong-Fosu proposed a framework centered on mobilization, participation, recognition, and reward to strengthen the party’s internal structures.
Simultaneously, Abass Mustapha Osabutey, known as “The Capo,” has declared his candidacy for the position of Deputy National Organiser. Drawing on nearly two decades of grassroots activism, Osabutey aims to prioritize strengthening branch structures, utilizing election trend analysis, and implementing data-driven planning for election operations. He has called for peaceful, issue-based campaigning to maintain party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
