Dominican Republic SNS inaugurates new health units in Bahoruco

The National Health Service (SNS) of the Dominican Republic has inaugurated several new medical facilities and specialized units in the southern region, specifically within the provinces of Bahoruco and San Juan.

In Neiba, Bahoruco, the San Bartolomé Provincial Hospital has opened a new Diabetic Foot Unit and a Hemodialysis Unit. The Diabetic Foot Unit includes consultation rooms, minor surgery areas, and recovery beds, with the goal of reducing related amputations by more than 35%. The Hemodialysis Unit is equipped with nine treatment chairs and specialized observation areas.

Additionally, the SNS has delivered new Primary Care Centers (CPN) in Vista al Lago (Neiba), Las Cañitas (Villa Jaragua), and Matayaya (Las Matas de Farfán). These centers aim to decentralize medical services, reduce travel times for rural populations, and alleviate congestion in larger regional hospitals.

Julio Landrón, Executive Director of the SNS, stated that these investments are part of a broader strategy to modernize the public health network, improve access to specialized care for vulnerable sectors, and upgrade hospital technology across the country.
