National Highway 13 expansion and toll station upgrades in Ho Chi Minh City

Major infrastructure upgrades are underway on National Highway 13 in Ho Chi Minh City. A significant project to expand the highway section from Binh Trieu Bridge to the former Binh Duong border in Hiep Binh Ward officially commenced on August 29, 2026. The project, implemented via a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model with an investment of approximately 6,276 billion VND, aims to expand the route to 10–14 lanes with a cross-section width of about 60 meters. This includes a 3.75 km viaduct and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

Regarding traffic management, authorities have decided against relocating the Lai Thieu toll station on National Highway 13. Instead, the station will undergo renovations to improve traffic flow. Plans include reopening the intersection between National Highway 13 and the access road to Phu Long Bridge by October 10 to reduce congestion. Additionally, the toll station will be upgraded with an automated collection system, leaving only one lane for manual payments to expedite vehicle movement.
