National Highway Company begins D2 motorway repairs in Bratislava

The National Highway Company (NDS) is conducting phased repairs on the D2 motorway in Bratislava to improve the condition of one of Slovakia’s oldest and most heavily used highways. Following the replacement of the bridge joint on the Lanfranconi Bridge toward the Sitina tunnel, crews are now working on the bridge joint in the opposite direction.

Starting Wednesday evening, repairs will begin on the middle lane of the bridge from Petržalka toward the Sitina tunnel. Work will continue through the night to ensure all lanes are open by the morning rush hour on Friday, August 21. Additionally, starting Tuesday, August 25, NDS plans to repair a 1.2-kilometer section of the roadway, including the middle lane of the bridge and approximately 500 meters of road leading to the bridge from the Petržalka side.

NDS Vice Chairman and Operating Director Rastislav Droppa stated that repairs are being carried out in stages due to high traffic volume, with an effort to utilize the summer holidays when traffic intensity in the capital is lower. The process involves milling the road surface and laying a new asphalt layer. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations during this period.
