National Hospital for Tropical Diseases treats severe brain injury after motorcycle collision

A 40-year-old woman from Hanoi, N. T. M. C., survived a critical motorcycle collision with a container truck after undergoing emergency surgery at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. The accident occurred when the woman struck the rear of a stopped truck, resulting in severe multi-trauma.

Medical staff activated a red alert protocol to expedite treatment. Clinical assessments revealed an open traumatic brain injury with brain tissue protruding through a 12 cm wound in the frontal region. The patient also suffered multiple fractures to the skull, including the frontal, temporal, and parietal bones, as well as complex facial fractures. Following a five-hour surgical procedure, the patient was stabilized.

In a separate incident, the National Children's Hospital reported the death of a 21-month-old child who sustained a severe brain injury after accidentally twisting the throttle of an electric motorbike while standing on the vehicle's floorboard. Medical experts have issued warnings regarding the dangers of allowing small children to sit or stand in front of drivers on electric motorbikes.
