National Hurricane Center monitors potential subtropical storm off U.S. East Coast
A non-tropical low pressure area located several hundred miles off the southeastern coast of the United States has a medium chance of developing into a subtropical storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The system, identified as Invest 93L, has a 40 percent chance of development over the next seven days. If the system evolves into a subtropical storm, it would be named Josephine. Forecasters expect the system to move northeastward away from the U.S. coast, with environmental conditions likely becoming unfavorable for further development by the weekend.
Regardless of whether the system officially develops, it is expected to bring high winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf to portions of the U.S. East Coast over the coming days. While the system is located well north of Florida, the broader weather pattern is already contributing to dangerous surf and strong winds along the coastline.
