Atlantic tropical and subtropical storm monitoring

Overview

The National Hurricane Center has been monitoring various low-pressure systems in the Atlantic. Initially, attention was focused on a disorganized area of low pressure southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, which had a 20 percent chance of tropical development and was not considered a threat to the United States.

Later, monitoring shifted to a non-tropical low-pressure area, identified as Invest 93L, located several hundred miles off the southeastern coast of the United States. This system carried a 40 percent chance of developing into a subtropical storm, potentially named Josephine. Although expected to move northeastward away from the coast, the system was anticipated to bring high winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf to portions of the U.S. East Coast.
