Bibliotheca Alexandrina issues National Identity Document

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina concluded its international conference, ‘National Identity: Deep Roots and a Renewed Vision,’ by issuing the ‘Bibliotheca Alexandrina National Identity Document.’ Held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the three-day event focused on defining and preserving Egyptian identity amidst global changes.

The document serves as a national roadmap, featuring ten key recommendations. These include treating national identity as an integrated project starting from the family and school, and preparing teachers to instill identity values in students. Dr. Abdel Aziz Qanso, Minister of Higher Education and Acting Minister of Culture, stated that the Ministry of Higher Education will adopt the document’s recommendations within Egyptian universities, including initiatives for purposeful content creators and enlightenment convoys to rural areas.

Officials emphasized that maintaining Egyptian identity is a matter of national security. Major General Khaled Fouda, Advisor to the President for Local Development, noted that the conference provided a space for dialogue on the challenges facing the Egyptian character. The event concluded with plans to hold the conference annually and expand its reach to various governorates and to Egyptians living abroad.
