Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosts national identity conference

The national conference ‘National Identity: Deep Roots and a Renewed Vision’ is being held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina from September 21 to 23, 2026, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The event brings together various Egyptian ministers, academics, and experts to discuss the preservation and strengthening of Egyptian national identity amidst contemporary challenges.

Key discussion topics include the impact of digital media and artificial intelligence on identity, the role of family and education, and the discourse of political Islam. During one session, experts addressed how certain political Islamist ideologies have historically challenged the concept of the nation-state in favor of transnational concepts. Other sessions focused on the stability of Egyptian identity despite economic pressures, noting the role of remittances from citizens abroad in demonstrating national cohesion.

In conjunction with the conference, the Ministry of Social Solidarity organized the ‘Diyaruna’ exhibition, showcasing traditional Egyptian handicrafts such as carpets, textiles, and woodwork to highlight cultural heritage. Government officials emphasized the importance of integrating constitutional principles into educational curricula and utilizing youth centers to foster a sense of belonging and citizenship among younger generations.
