Romania faces weather shifts and institutional investigations
Romania is experiencing significant weather shifts and institutional scrutiny. Meteorologists from the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) report cooling temperatures, strong winds, and the first snowfalls at high altitudes. Snow accumulation of up to 15 cm is expected in mountain areas, with wind gusts reaching 90 km/h on ridges. While temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable or slightly higher in some regions through mid-November, local rains and frost are anticipated.
Separately, the Ministry of Environment has raised serious allegations regarding mismanagement within state institutions. An audit by the Ministry's Control Body identified systemic issues at the ANM, including potential irregularities in direct procurement processes. Interim Minister Diana Buzoianu stated that leadership had been warned about these issues as early as November 2025.
Additionally, the Ministry has accused certain Romsilva directors of participating in hunting trips during official working hours. The allegations suggest that officials from various counties used official service assignments to justify traveling to different regions for hunting activities, involving unpaid external guests and seasonal workers.
