Badan Gizi Nasional updates Free Nutritious Meals program

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is implementing several updates to its Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. A major pilot project is underway in over 60 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) across Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, and Jayapura. This pilot introduces a buffet-style service, inspired by the Japanese Kyushoku system, to ensure meals are served warm and fresh while reducing food waste and food poisoning risks.

To improve budget efficiency, BGN has transitioned the incentive scheme for SPPG partners from a flat daily rate of Rp6 million to a per-portion rate of Rp2,000. This change aims to prevent state budget waste, particularly in kitchens serving fewer than the standard 3,000 portions.

BGN is also tightening data management to ensure accurate distribution. The agency is verifying beneficiary details, including names and National Identity Numbers (NIK), to match actual school populations. This follows instances where data in the Dapodik system did not align with field realities. Consequently, seven SPPG units in Kudus were temporarily suspended due to these administrative discrepancies.

On the operational front, BGN has ended its moratorium on kitchen activations, adding 480 new SPPG units in 16 eastern provinces, bringing the national total to 27,022 units. In Jayapura, 29 units are currently serving approximately 67,423 students across 322 schools.
