National Open University of Nigeria faces graduate and alumni crises
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is facing multiple institutional challenges involving its graduates and alumni association. Approximately 5,000 law graduates from the university have petitioned the House of Representatives, seeking intervention after being unable to proceed to the Nigerian Law School. A representative for the graduates, Dr. Adeniyi Oladele, stated that the university informed them their names were rejected for mobilisation, despite previous cohorts successfully completing professional training and being called to the Nigerian Bar.
Separately, NOUN has suspended all activities of its Alumni Association, including an upcoming election scheduled for October 10, 2026. This suspension follows petitions alleging certificate forgery, racketeering, and other irregularities involving the national president and the executive committee. The university management has resolved to constitute an investigative committee to probe these allegations and determine the eligibility of association members to ensure the institution's integrity is maintained.
