National Palace Museum launches second phase of Dragon Sutra exhibition
Taiwan's National Palace Museum announced that the second phase of its "Dragon Sutra" special exhibition will run from 8 August to 8 November. The museum will open online ticket sales and a reservation system, extend daily opening hours to 7 p.m., and offer an 8 percent discount for visitors entering after 4:30 p.m. to spread attendance more evenly.
The first phase, which ended on 2 August, attracted far more visitors than expected, with some patrons waiting three hours in line only to be turned away from the main display. In response, the museum introduced a trial reservation scheme, added extra opening days, and limited photography in the exhibition halls to improve visitor flow and protect the artifacts. The exhibition showcases the complete set of the Qing‑era Dragon Sutra, a gold‑leaf manuscript designated a national treasure, along with related items such as protective cloths and banners. The museum also encourages visitors to view additional pieces at its Southern Branch in Chiayi, where a rotating selection of the sutra is displayed.
