National Police officer rescues swimmer at Samil Beach

An off-duty National Police officer rescued a woman being swept away by currents at Samil Beach in Vigo. The incident occurred on August 14 near the mouth of the Lagares River, an area known for dangerous rip currents during certain tidal conditions.

The officer, a member of the Crime Prevention Operative Group (GOPD), was playing beach volleyball when she heard screams and spotted a woman approximately 100 to 150 meters from the shore. After alerting bystanders to call emergency services and warning others to stay out of the water, the officer entered the sea alongside another individual with lifeguard training.

The woman was found in a state of extreme exhaustion and panic, struggling to stay afloat. The rescuers managed to calm her, instructed her to float on her back, and towed her safely to the shore. Upon reaching the sand, local police and medical personnel attended to the woman, who was in a state of shock.
