Spanish National Police water rescues
Overview
In August 2026, an off-duty National Police officer rescued a woman from dangerous rip currents at Samil Beach in Vigo. The officer, a member of the Crime Prevention Operative Group, responded to screams and entered the water to assist the swimmer, who was found in a state of extreme exhaustion and panic.
In September 2026, another off-duty National Police officer, José Antonio Sánchez, performed a rescue in Isla Cristina, Huelva. Sánchez intervened after noticing a drifting jet ski and discovered a paraplegic man and his wife, who could not swim, struggling in the water. Despite difficulties with the stability of the jet ski, the officer managed to bring both individuals to safety.
