National Rehabilitation Centre opens in Nottingham

The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Nottinghamshire has officially opened, welcoming its first patients. The £105 million to £107 million specialist facility is a 70-bed center designed to support NHS patients recovering from life-changing illnesses or injuries.

Funded through the government’s New Hospital Programme, the NRC is the NHS’s first single-site operationally carbon-neutral building, utilizing rooftop solar panels and air source heat pumps. The facility features advanced medical technology, including the NHS’s most comprehensive robotics suite and the UK’s first 360-degree hoist.

The project was completed by a joint venture between Vinci and Sir Robert McAlpine, known as Integrated Health Projects (IHP). The opening followed a six-month delay caused by water quality issues, which required the replacement of 183 mixer taps and the installation of a chlorine dioxide unit to meet rigorous hospital standards.

Located on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, the NRC sits alongside the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, allowing civilian and military rehabilitation expertise to complement one another.
