National Science and Maths Quiz 2026 sees school withdrawals and eliminations

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) one-eighth stage has seen several high-profile exits and controversies. Anlo Senior High School and Kumasi High School were withdrawn from the competition after their contestants walked off the stage during Contest 9. The incident followed a dispute regarding the adjudication of a Biology question, which led to agitation and disruption in the auditorium. Organizers, Primetime Limited, stated that the withdrawal was necessary to maintain the fairness and integrity of the competition. St. Augustine’s College was declared the winner of that contest.

In other results, Islamic Senior High School, Kumasi, was eliminated after meeting eight-time champions Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC) Legon and St Louis SHS. PRESEC secured a quarter-final spot with 67 points. Additionally, Presby SHS, Bompata, advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the seeded Our Lady of Grace SHS and Kumasi Sec. Tech. Sch. in a closely contested match.
