National Sports Museum opens in South Korea

South Korea has officially opened the National Sports Museum, a facility dedicated to collecting, preserving, and showcasing the nation's sporting heritage. The museum houses approximately 70,000 items, including significant artifacts such as the 1947 Boston Marathon winning medal of Suh Yun-bok, the 1988 Seoul Olympics flame cauldron, and the wrestling uniform of Yang Jung-mo, South Korea's first Olympic gold medalist.

During the opening ceremony, Yoo Seung-min, President of the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee, and Chung Jin-wan, President of the Korea Paralympic Committee, emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of past athletes. The museum aims to serve as a space where the values of both the Olympic and Paralympic movements are shared with the public. Plans are also underway to develop a Dream Paralympic Education and Experience Center to allow future generations to learn about and experience Paralympic sports.

In conjunction with these institutional developments, South Korean para-athletes are preparing for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games. The national delegation includes 214 athletes competing across 18 sports, highlighting the ongoing growth and resilience of the country's para-sports community.
