National Theatre of Greece presents new productions in Athens

The National Theatre of Greece is presenting two significant theatrical productions at the ‘Eirini Pappá’ Athens School.

Dimitris Karantzas will direct a modern production of Euripides’ ‘Alcestis’. This version serves as a contemporary parable exploring themes of power, gender, and social responsibility. The production examines the sacrifice of Alcestis as a political and social act, utilizing music, movement, and acrobatics to create a fluid theatrical experience.

Additionally, the production ‘The Woman of Zakynthos | Dialogue in the Ruins of Mesolonghi’, directed by Manos Karatzogiannis, will be staged on August 29 and 30. A co-production between the National Theatre and the Municipal Theater of Agrinio, the play is inspired by the works of Dionysios Solomos, including ‘The Woman of Zakynthos’, ‘Dialogue’, and ‘The Free Besieged’. The performance commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Mesolonghi, reflecting on the historical struggle for independence and the symbolic sacrifices made during that era.
