National University of Singapore launches AI learning platform and edge AI lab

Edge AI Semiconductor research ST-NUS HELIX Corporate Lab Conversational AI AI Sense Maker

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has announced two significant technological developments. First, NUS Libraries and NUS IT have launched AI Sense Maker (ASM), a web-based conversational platform powered by OpenAI’s Large Language Model. Designed to transform the learning journey for students and academics, the platform uses semantic search to understand user intent, providing concise topic summaries, related concepts, and interactive knowledge graphs.

Additionally, STMicroelectronics and NUS have established the ST–NUS HELIX Corporate Lab. This four-year research initiative, supported by Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 plan, focuses on advancing next-generation edge AI technologies. The lab aims to enable generative and embodied AI applications through innovations in system architecture, semiconductor design, and silicon implementation. The program is hosted at the NUS College of Design and Engineering and involves multidisciplinary research into AI algorithms, low-power memory, and circuit design.
