National Urban League Report Says Trump Policies Hurt Black Americans' Economic Prospects

The National Urban League released its annual “State of Black America” report, noting that the economic outlook for Black Americans has worsened under the Trump administration. The report, featuring input from Senators Angela Alsobrooks, Lisa Blunt Rochester, Raphael Warnock, Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, says federal actions have amplified existing challenges.

It highlights the administration’s attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), including an executive order that bans what President Donald Trump called “illegal DEI.” The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has shifted its focus away from workplace discrimination to scrutinizing DEI programs, prompting many corporations and universities to shut down DEI departments. National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial warned that while Black Americans bear the brunt, the broader working‑class population will also feel the impact of these policies.
