Trump policies impact Black Americans

The National Urban League issued its annual “State of Black America” report on July 30, 2026, warning that the American Dream is farther from reach for Black Americans than at any time since the Civil Rights Movement. The report attributed the decline to recent Trump‑administration actions, including an overhaul of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, reforms to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act that altered voting rules.

A follow‑up release on August 1, 2026 expanded the focus to the economic outlook, stressing that federal attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)—notably an executive order banning what President Trump called “illegal DEI”—have amplified existing challenges. The EEOC’s shift away from workplace discrimination enforcement toward scrutiny of DEI programs has led many corporations and universities to dismantle DEI departments. League President and CEO Marc Morial cautioned that while Black Americans bear the brunt, the broader working‑class population will also feel the impact of these policies.
