NATO conducts large-scale aerial exercises near Kaliningrad
NATO has conducted large-scale, unplanned aerial exercises near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad and northern Norway. The operation, led by the United States, involved a significant concentration of air power, with reports indicating that over 50 aircraft were simultaneously operating over Poland and the Baltic Sea on August 19.
The mission included a diverse array of assets, such as E-3A AWACS early warning and control aircraft, EA-37B Compass Call electronic warfare planes, and ARTEMIS II reconnaissance aircraft. The deployment also featured American and Norwegian fighter jets, as well as Polish ground units and British P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
Military expert Carlo Masala described the concentration of forces as ‘a message for Russia.’ The exercises represent a demonstration of the alliance's defensive capabilities and readiness in the Baltic region.
