NATO official calls for Turkish defense industry role in EU cooperation
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus G. Grynkewich has emphasized the importance of including the Turkish defense industry in EU-NATO cooperation. Speaking at a meeting organized by the European Parliament's Defense and Security Committee, Grynkewich noted that while Europe is increasing its focus on defense production, current efforts remain insufficient to meet rising global risks.
He highlighted that following the NATO Summit in Ankara, where defense industry contracts exceeding 50 billion euros were made, Turkish companies should be integrated into EU defense production policies alongside Canadian, British, and Norwegian firms. Additionally, discussions regarding a military Schengen policy were raised, suggesting a 4.7 billion euro budget to modernize infrastructure for military movement.
In separate military cooperation developments, Turkey and Georgia have concluded the Air Operation Planning and Management Course. Held as part of the 19th Turkey-Georgia Military Dialogue Meeting, the training involved nine personnel from the Georgian Ministry of Defense. The program, hosted by the Turkish Air Force, focused on sharing institutional experience in coordinating and managing complex air operations.
