Turkish defense industry NATO-EU integration

Overview

Discussions regarding the role of the Turkish defense industry in international security frameworks have intensified. Initially, TUSAŞ General Manager Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu participated in a roundtable in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The meeting focused on strengthening the NATO defense industry base and enhancing industrial ties between Turkey and its allies through aerospace and defense production.

Following these discussions, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus G. Grynkewich advocated for the integration of Turkish defense companies into EU-NATO cooperation. Speaking to the European Parliament's Defense and Security Committee, Grynkewich suggested that Turkish firms should be included in EU defense production policies, similar to Canadian, British, and Norwegian companies, to address rising global risks. This follows a NATO Summit in Ankara where defense industry contracts exceeding 50 billion euros were established.
