Nature connection initiatives and research highlighted in the Netherlands
Local initiatives and research in the Netherlands are highlighting the importance of connecting with nature to improve well-being and biodiversity. BuitenBasis organized a Parent & Child Expedition in the Meije, where participants used double kayaks to observe local wildlife, including kingfishers, guided by nature guide Ingrid Meijer.
In North Holland, a survey of over 700 residents conducted by PWN found that 79 percent of respondents hold an ecocentric view, recognizing humans as part of a broader community of species. This aligns with research from the University of Derby suggesting that daily conscious engagement with nature can lead to increased happiness and health, while also fostering a greater sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation.
