Nauru launches Pacific Digital Assets Forum for regional crypto regulation

Nauru’s Office of the Trade Commissioner to the United Arab Emirates has launched the Pacific Digital Assets Forum (PDAF), the first regional platform dedicated to digital assets and finance across the Pacific. The forum aims to promote responsible regulation, informed policy dialogue and international collaboration. Trade Commissioner Dadvan Yousuf will serve as founding chair and said effective regulation is essential for building confidence in innovation.

PDAF will debut two flagship initiatives in the fourth quarter of 2027: the Pacific Digital Assets Report, an annual publication that will include a Pacific Digital Assets Regulatory Index assessing regulatory progress across Pacific jurisdictions; and the Pacific Digital Assets Conference, a rotating regional event. Nominations are open for the forum’s inaugural advisory board, which will provide strategic guidance. The forum operates independently, focusing on education, research and international engagement, and does not represent official government policy.

The launch follows Nauru’s 2023 legislation establishing the Command Ridge Virtual Asset Authority, the first dedicated cryptocurrency regulator in the Pacific island region, underscoring the country’s ambition to become a leading digital economy in the area.
