Nauru opens first embassy in Jerusalem

Nauru has officially opened its first embassy in Jerusalem, becoming the ninth country to establish a diplomatic mission in the city. Nauruan Vice President and Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea inaugurated the embassy on Monday, stating the move is intended to strengthen ties with Israel and send a message regarding the nation’s international stance.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar attended the ceremony, describing Nauru as a reliable and consistent diplomatic ally. In response to the opening, Israel announced it will provide assistance to Nauru through the MASHAV international development program, including water-purification systems and medical equipment such as cardiac ultrasound machines.

The move follows a recent announcement by the Democratic Republic of Congo, which intends to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Other nations, including Colombia and Argentina, have also expressed intentions to move their diplomatic missions to the city.
