Navantia to launch new maritime vessel and launch training academy
Navantia is set to launch the Maritime Action Vessel for Underwater Intervention (BAM IS), named Poseidón, at its Puerto Real shipyard this Friday. This vessel, built for the Spanish Navy, will replace the Neptuno and marks the first new ship launch at the Matagorda shipyard in seven years.
The project represents an investment exceeding 221 million euros and is expected to generate approximately 1,100 jobs, including direct, indirect, and supplier roles. The Ministry of Defense noted that the program aims to provide advanced capabilities to the Navy while strengthening the defense industrial and technological base.
To support upcoming workloads and industrial demand, Navantia is also launching the Navantia Academy. This initiative focuses on training new talent through partnerships with vocational training centers and universities, such as the University of Cádiz. The academy aims to provide specialized professionals to meet the needs of the company and its supply chain, targeting an employability rate of 80% to 90%.
